The Centre Achieves ISO14001:2004 Certification

ISO14001:2004

The Centre recently achieved the ISO 14001:2004 Standard for Environmental Management Systems. This is an internationally recognised standard that measures the effectiveness of an organisation's environmental management procedures.

ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System provides the Centre with a framework to:

  • identify and control the environmental impact of its activities, products and services
  • improve its environmental performance continually
  • implement a systematic approach to setting environmental objectives and targets, to achieving these and to demonstrate that they have been achieved.

An ISO certification requires the implementation of high standards across the entire organisation and a stringent auditing process.

Read how the Centre achieved three ISO accreditations in our latest media release.

Case Studies

The Centre supports event organisers in their aim to deliver more environmentally-friendly events. Reed Gift Fairs hold two exhibitions at the Centre each year, and with each event they are reducing their environmental footprint. The Reed Gift Fairs and Ecowise (3.89mb) shows how you can put sustainable initiatives into practice.

How the Centre is supporting you with environmental initiatives

Sustainability Policy

The Centre is committed to the local community and we embrace our social responsibility in being part of the Sydney corporate community. The Centre will build on the significant achievements of the organisation by committing to work with staff, suppliers, organisers and exhibitors to continuously improve our performance. Read our Sustainability Policy for more information.

Green Products and Services

The Centre aims to use environmentally-friendly products and services wherever possible. This may be in the way a product is packaged, or the processes for delivery. You can help minimise the environmental impact of your event by choosing these products and services. To find out more, ask your Event Manager.

Food Rescue Service - OzHarvest

The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre works with local food rescue service OzHarvest to ensure that any excess pre-packaged food from the venue does not go to waste. OzHarvest is a not-for-profit organisation that collects food and delivers it free of charge to 118 charities that provide meals for men, women and children in need throughout Sydney.

Resource Recovery

Food at the Centre never goes to waste. Instead, it is transported to a specialist recycling plant for conversion to green fuel, which the plant uses in its purpose-designed power stations.

Sustainability Advantage Program

The Centre is participating in the New South Wales Government's Sustainability Advantage Program in order to identify new measures that will help the venue and our clients contribute to a better environment.

Life With a Smaller Footprint

The Centre held a seminar for event organisers to provide them with practical ways in which they can reduce their impact on the environment when holding events. To view the presentations and information that accompanied this seminar, please view our Life With a Smaller Footprint section.

It is encouraging to be recognised for our environmental initiatives. It shows that we are on the right track and our continued effort to bring about change within our working practices will help support our clients in conducting more environmentally-friendly events.
