Green Credentials

  • From the produce we source for our kitchen, to our robust waste management plan, the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre is a world leading green venue, striving to create a more sustainable events industry and encouraging the continuing growth of green venues.

The Centre’s environmental work is driven by a passionate team of staff known as Ecowise - a committee constantly looking at ways to improve our environmental performance as a green venue.

We have adopted a series of working practices that have seen a reduction in our water and energy usage, and that of our clients. Our Ecowise fact sheet and Green Event ideas brochure give lots of ideas for how you can make sure your next event at the Centre is environmentally responsible.

The Centre also supports the wider community through our work with food rescue service, OzHarvest. The Centre donates excess pre-packaged food to this not-for-profit organisation. OzHarvest collects and delivers food, free of charge, to over 115 charities across Sydney.

Our efforts to establish the Centre as a green venue and bring about industry change have resulted in a number of awards and accreditations for the Centre including:

    • Best Green Initiative, Exhibition and Events Association of Australia (EEAA) - 4 years running.
    • ISO 14001:2004 Standard for Environmental Management Systems, 2010
    • Meeting and Events Australia Corporate Social Responsibility award, 2010, 2008, and inaugural award in 2007
  • Ecowise logo
  • Green Credentials 3
  • Earth Check accreditation

“The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Ecowise program is the leader in our industry and with the continued focus of its dedicated staff and partners like Reed Exhibitions the program will continue to grow and benefit the environment.”

Stephen Steenson, Operations Director, Reed Exhibitions Australia.
